Rallies and Dances
Merriam-Webster can tell you how to define “rally” in eleven different ways, but that still wouldn’t tell you anything about what an Irvington rally really is. You could say it’s a celebration of unity after an effervescent spirit week. Or it’s the first thing you remember when you think of high school. Or you’d probably say it’s a variety of performances like dancing, singing, stunting, and so on. And those are all true facts about an Irvington rally, but there’s also a lot more that you just have to experience. Like that feeling of annoyance every underclassmen gets when the “I-H-S” chant ends with “SENIORS!” And it’s that rush of pride in your chest when you scream: “We feel good, oh, we feel so good.” And it does feel good, doesn’t it? Those are the feelings that define what rallies mean to you.
Irvington hosts two dances open to all students. The Homecoming Dance in the fall and Spring Fling in spring. Tickets go on sale for dances three weeks before the dance. Tickets must be bought in advance. Buy your tickets early to save money and get your ticket before they sell out. Students who purchase a Viking VIP card do not need to buy a dance ticket. The ticket is automatically applied to your digital ID.
Rallies:
Welcome Back Rally (Beginning of year, during Flex)
Homecoming Rally (During HOCO Dance)
Winter Rally (December, during Flex)
Multicultural Rally (February, during flex)
Black Light Rally (During Spring Fling Dance)
Spirit Weeks
HOCO, the most significant spirit week of the year, features a variety of competitions and events. Students engage in a bench-building competition, a class dance, lip-sync performances, and spirit activities. The class with the highest cumulative score emerges victorious. Additionally, the winning class is awarded the prestigious triple crown if it wins first place in three of the four categories.
Beyond the competitions, HOCO includes the Homecoming Football game, which showcases the Homecoming court and the school marching band. The week culminates in the grandest dance and rally of the year. During the rally, the HOCO winner and Homecoming Royalty are announced. Notably, the HOCO Dance has consistently sold out since its return after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Service Week is a week dedicated to service. Our service clubs are the star during service week where each day different service clubs are highlighted.
This year we are holding 12 days of Winter, with a primary week of spirit buildup made up of various dress up days and small events during lunch. The next week is a competition between the schools in Fremont Unified School District to battle it out for who has the most spirit, and who raises the greatest amount of money in a coin drive to charity. The last two days before finals week are meant to be moments of relaxation before the stress of testing, but all 12 days are a time period of bonding the school together to remind us of the joys of winter time.
Multicultural Week is a school wide celebration that highlights the many cultures and traditions that make up the Irvington community. Throughout the week, students participate in themed spirit days that encourage them to embrace and share their cultural identities. The week features a Multicultural Rally with engaging games and performances from cultural clubs and dance teams such as Sitaare, Soor, Natya, VSA, FYA, and others. The celebration continuers with a multicultural night market, where students and families can enjoy cultural performances, food, and interactive booths while learning about different traditions.
Through these events Multicultural Week fosters cultural awareness, inclusivity, and school spirit across campus.
VS week is our second most popular and interactive spirit week of the school year. It also features many competitions and events school wide. Different classes are paired together through odds and evens. For example class of 27 and 29 were paired up in the year 2025 as the odd classes. And class of 28 and 26 were paired as the even classes. They would compete throughout the week in different aspects that were measure by student engagement. They would compete in a spirit week to see which class had the most amount of students who dress up. They also participate in a dance battle. It involves all the students and encourages collaboration by working with the different classes to choreograph and practice their dance. The winners are revealed for the the entire VS week at our spring fling dance that happens to be on the Friday on VS week each year.
Love Vikings Week is Irvington’s Valentine’s Day spirit week, bringing students together through themed dress-up days, lunchtime activities, and school wide events. Throughout the week, students participate in fun spirit days and engage in interactive courtyard activities that help build connections across campus.
One of the most popular traditions is Cupid’s mailbox, where students can send notes and messages to friends, which are personally handwritten and delivered to classrooms by ASG embers. The week also features one of Irvington’s largest inter-school collaborations, as senior class officers work alongside student leaders from Logan and American High School to organize a Valentine’s Day dating show. The event includes games, audience participation, and entertainment while serving as a fundraiser to help seniors raise money for prom. Love Vikings Week encourages school spirit, friendship, and community involvement while creating lasting memories for students.

Senior Sunrise is a tradition that marks the beginning of the last year for seniors at Irvington. This event is usually held within the first few days of school, and is executed by the Senior Class Officers and their Class Council, however, it is open to all seniors at Irvington. Seniors wake up early, bring blankets, and show up in pajamas to watch the sunrise together at a park. Food and snacks are served at the event, and there are also many great opportunities for photos with friends. This tradition makes a full-circle moment when it ends with Senior Sunset, which is help at the end of the year. As one of the first events of the school year, Senior Sunrise is a nostalgic and unstoppable event for all seniors at Irvington!
This is a brand-new event for seniors. Details to come soon. Seniors will get a night out on the bay on a private boat while enjoying dancing, games and more!
